Castell is a 150 year old shepherd's cottage set in the wild and wonderful countryside of the Snowdonia National Park about seven miles south west of Bala. It belongs to the Castell Mountain Cottage Trust and was bought by people with insight and vision for young people to use as a base from which to experience, hopefully to enjoy, activities and a lifestyle very different from normal.
Indoor accommodation offers lounge with wood burning stove, dining/work room, kitchen and ablutions on the ground floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms each with three sets of bunk beds. Outside there is a field suitable for up to six expedition tents.
The accommodation is "basic but comfortable" and improvements are ongoing, although the house has now been refurbished inside to meet with fire regulations and is available for use as bunkhouse accommodation and campsite. Crockery and basic cooking utensils are provided.
The only access to the cottage is on foot by a footpath, there is no direct road access to Castell mountain cottage. All vehicles must be left about one kilometre away. There are no neighbours either!
